Wedding planning can be tedious and back-breaking. It can involve a lot of negotiating, bargaining and legwork especially if you do it yourself.
So what can you do in order to get that dream wedding?
- If your budget is deep or your future spouse is quite generous, hire a wedding planner. You don’t have to settle for big name professionals. Instead, look for someone with a respected reputation, lots of creative ideas and a skill for bargaining. Don’t just pick someone off the Internet either.
- You might want to farm out aspects of the wedding planning to friends or family. If you can’t find someone to do everything, ask your mom to take care of the dresses for the entourage. Talk to a friend who does hotel bookings to find you a hotel offering wedding or reception packages. Get your future spouse to contact his friends about car rentals.
- Do away with tradition. You don’t have to have veil, cord and other traditional ceremonies. You don’t need to wear a white wedding gown. You don’t even have to exchange rings! Don’t do what makes you uncomfortable. A couple who loved rodeo, got married in jeans and cowboy boots in a corral! Another couple donned swimsuits and got married in a reef underwater! A couple who both met in the Army got married in their dress uniforms atop a Centurion tank and got honored by a 12-gun salute!
- If budget is tight and time is a constraint, keep the planning simple. That can be as easy as booking a trip to Vegas and then to Tahiti. It can also be a drive to the temple and back home to a home-cooked dinner with family. Don’t plan on inviting a hundred when you can’t even feed five. Be practical!
Planning for your wedding doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. All it has to be is memorable and enjoyable.
